Water Conditions: Poor - Fair
Flows are at 20 cfs as of 2/6
Fishing conditions and Hatches: Fair
If the weather stays well below freezing head elsewhere, it's not fair to the fish to lift them out of the water because of potential damage to them. Temperatures are starting to moderate, days are getting longer and we should be seeing things pick up in the next few weeks. Fishing is okay but it's real skinny and limited to the deep holes, not something I would do very often. Dry fly action has been picking up for the smaller fish, 10"-16".The midges are pretty much the only bug hatching but there are fish rising in the slower water midday, dry dropper was the most successful with a large dry and Zebra Midge dropper. The perch , no longer fry, are still getting flushed through the pipe so make sure you have light colored streamers ready, go with bigger streamers. By now the fish are educated to perch imitations so you need to figure out how to present a dying perch realistically. A couple of our guides were up there several weeks ago and their observation was "bigger is better". It seems that the trout's feeling is "if I'm going to put out the effort it better be worth it."
