The rain of the past month has definitely helped anglers on lake Oroville, according to Fil Torres at Oroville Outdoors. "Last weekend's Anglers Choice Pro-Am bass tournament had 86 boats for the two-day event launch at the spillway with no problems", said Torres. "The winning weight was 22.75 pounds [for ten bass], and the big fish was 4.26 pounds. Rich Cavanagh of the Chico Bass Club finished a respectable seventh on the Am side. The bass are turning on all around the lake. Most of the bass are in 15 feet of water or less, and are hitting on ripbaits, blades, crankbaits, tubes and plastics.
"Some catfish in the three to six pound range are hitting on cut baits near McCabe's Cove and Lime Saddle. If you want to try for coho salmon, the north fork is clearing, and salmon are showing on the meter at about 30 feet. A few nice salmon to three pounds have been caught accidentally by bass anglers."
Torres cautioned, "It is important for boaters to be careful, there is a lot of floating debris on the surface."
