Fishing continues to be difficult for the billfish in the offshore
waters and dorado seems to be the action leader for most of the
boats, usually resulting in 1 or 2 fish per day. While the boats are
still seeing stripers throughout the area, the fish are not at all
interested in the baits or the lures. Overall catches for 39 fishing
days reflected 4 stripers released, 26 yellowfin tuna, 71 dorado, 1
roosterfish, 6 yellowtail and 8 giant squid.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny & warm days, temps from 66 nights to
upper 80s during the days.
Sea Conditions: Cool on the Pacific side, down to 67-68, with the
plume running northwest to southeast and about 10 miles wide, on a
line from the Finger Bank to 40 miles below Cabo. On both sides of
the cooler water the temp rises rapidly to 72-74 degrees.
Best Fishing Area: No concentration of billfish and the dorado are
mostly in the 4-6 mile offshore areas, from Chileno to Destiladeras
on the Sea of Cortez side.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the dorado and the few marlin
that were taken were also on live bait. Tuna primarily on the tuna
feathers.
Live Bait Supply: Remained good with a mix of mackerel and caballitos
