ishing on don Pedro lately has been interesting. Catching lots of fish hasn’t been a problem finding quality ones has been extra tricky as the bait is in 40-70 ft in most creeks. I fished a small 35 boat tournament this past Saturday and ended up taking second place and managed big fish of the tournament with only a 4.40.
Now, 35 boats on Pedro and a 4 pounder as big fish is not something that happens often. I started my day in a specific creek for the first 2 hours and never got a bite. I started bouncing around only fishing areas that I was graphing fish in. I dropped a flutter spoon down on a few arches that were just passing by and ended up catching that 4 pounder that had my spoon all the way in its crushers. We juiced the area for a few other decent fish on the spoon but had to mix it up with a worm as the day went on and they got off the spoon.
We caught fish on a- rigs and underspins but the better fish were wanting the spoon that day. All our fish came in 40 to 55 foot of water. A few days before the tournament I found a good shallow bite throwing jigs and senkos, but it wasn’t happening during the tournament.
If you are looking to get out and see how I break down a lake during the fall winter transition give me a call.
