Some much needed rain and snow.
Are we finally seeing this La Niña loading up storms for California? Fingers crossed. The 2 storms over the weekend were pretty meager for Tahoe standards, but it’s a start. My guess, January – March, we’ll get some big cold storms. Our last La Niña year, ‘11, it was still snowing here in June. Be prepared all the new Truckee residents, especially if you bought a place in Tahoe Donner.
The rain and snow is so good for the river. Been so stagnant for so long. Sunny and cold, and low flows. Things should start to change. Some bump in flows and some good nasty weather will really help our winter fishing. I like to streamer fish in the winter for the big post spawn browns. The nastier the weather, the better. The higher the river, the better. Been putting some better streamer days together this last week, and it should only get better. Had about the worst fall streamer fishing in memory. Sunny, high pressure just sucks. I guess that’s the new California though. Fall starts in December now. March is winter. The up top fishing will get rolling soon too. Last year we had some epic days out East on the lower river. That was right after Christmas. Really big blue wing hatches.
Stay safe and healthy everyone. I’ll be here guiding and fishing and doing my thing. Fishing is about the safest thing you can do.
