Water Conditions:
Expect cold water if you are going to be float tubing. All lakes are ice free. Right now, the lakes are more of a bait and deep lure party, than fly fishing.
Fishing Conditions and Hatches: Good
With colder water of "ice-out" follow the cardinal rules of SLOW & DEEP, the PG-13 version of course, we're talking about fishing for trout here, right? Type 4 lines or denser should get you to the fish with a really slow retrieve. Make each cast count and keep the fly deep as long as you can.
Not much in terms bug hatches, damsels and Callibaetis are still a long way off. Midges will get more active later in the spring about the time the fish move into shallower water.
Recommended Flies:
Streamers like grey or black Zonkers and leech patterns such as D.R. Seal Buggers in brown, olive/orange and black, or good ol' Docs Twin Lakes specials in darker colors.
Guides Hint: Water is very cold and air temps can vary?Ķ if it's windy it'll be cold?Ķ. if you are tubing wear lots of layers and warm socks
