Lake Oroville Open

The annual "Lake Oroville Open" Spring Spectacular Team Bass Tournament will take place on April 25. The new location for both launch and weigh-in will be at the Spillway. Conducted by the Chico Bass Club, this fundraising event is the largest locally-run tournament of the year on Lake Oroville.

Entry fee of $60 per two-person team includes bar-b-que dinner and big fish option. First-place prize of $500 is based on 100 teams. Plenty of great raffle items will be available, and the slot-limit waiver will be in force. Entry forms are available at local tackle shops, or by calling 877-0912.

Lake Oroville bass anglers were doing well, noted Fil Torres at Oroville Outdoors. "It's not too tough to catch fish in Lake Oroville right now", quipped Torres. "A lot of people are taking their kids out because there is so much action. We have heard of anglers releasing as many as 50 or 60 fish per day."

Torres tipped, "The South Fork in particular has really turned on. Typical of this time of year, the fish are biting on a lot of different things; plastic worms, tubes, Senkos, you name it. A five-pound largemouth was the biggest fish of last weekend's tournament. The big one was caught by Alex Parker of Oroville, and he had a total of 14 pounds [for five bass]."
