The weather has been anything but bad this past week, making ice fishing a bad idea. Little Virginia has about 60% ice which is rotten but the open water is producing well. Big Virginia is not thawing as fast but should be ice free depending on the weather in about 8 days. Trumbull Lake is ice free.

Worms, according to Webster, any numerous slender soft-bodied, legless, bilaterally symmetrical inverterbrates. Trout only see food, we see a method to entice wary trout into eating something that we present in a most sensual way as to make trout believe it is food.

Nike & Matt of La Puente didn't have much trouble finding trout at Little Virginia using, what else, worms. Cloud cover give the trout a sense of security, so wait till those clouds roll by and toss your worm. See you on the water. Carolyn

On Saturday, Big Virginia saw some die hard ice fishermen very early with the worst possible conditions you could imagine. Wind with blowing snow and a 4" fall after about 3 hours of it. Loads of fish were caught, nothing large as the lake was frozen when DFG planted the brood stock last November 16th. This year, hopefully, it will be open and we'll give 'em a call to get some of those rod-bending mobytrout into the lake. There were 37 anglers......

Weatherwise the week was great for fishing until Friday, when the first dusting of snow hit the Sierra Crest with about 6 inches, and another 9 is expected tonight. It's snowing right now and the sun is shining so it is not sticking to the ground. Trout love this kind of weather, and they don't mind the wind. It's breezy but not enough to stop the watercraft or shore anglers. Big Fish: John McIntosh of Gardnerville caught a nice 5lb and a 3lb Alpers on......
