Tomorrow [Saturday March 31] marks the opening day of the spring wild turkey hunting season, and California's wild turkey population is hitting an all-time high. "We are expecting a good opener", said Dave Ebright at Chico Sportsmen's Den. "After two years of good hatches, there are a lot of birds in the area, and the weather looks favorable. A little breeze is good, but it will still be fairly warm. The birds will be on the ground early, so be prepared!"
The 2007 spring turkey season runs from Mar. 31 to May 6. The bag and possession limit is one bearded turkey per day, and three per season. An Upland Game Bird Stamp is required for adult license holders. Legal shooting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to 4:00 PM.
