The red-sides are active and fiesty on the Lower Deschutes. The vast majority of activity is still sub-surface, but be prepared to throw a dry fly once the noon hatch picks up. We’ve been seeing significant hatches of March browns, pale morning duns, blue winged olives and a variety of caddis hatches. For subsurface fishing try fishing stonefly nymphs, caddis pupa or a general mayfly nymph imitation. Fish key into different types of insects depending on the habitat type you’re fishing in. If you want to beat the early summer crowds, head out there now. The canyon is green, the birds are out and the fish are hungry!
