Another week of great fishing and unsettled weather continue to plague the Eastern Sierra. Snow, hail, thunder and lightning with rain heavy at times, was last week's prediction, and it's the same for this coming week without the snow. The temperature is starting to rise as is the lake temperature, it's gone from 48 to 49 degrees about 15" under the surface.

DFG stocked on the 8th and a supplemental stocking provided by the Mono County Fisheries Commission funded thru the Fine Fund which was approved by the Board of Supervisors. These fish will go into the same waters (17) the Alpers trophy trout in the county.

Lures working are Thomas Buoyant red/gold, crocodile rainbow, gold cripple, red/gold Super Duper, Thunderbolts and Z-spoon Lip Rippers.

Bait that is working is worms, garlic power bait, orange glitter, rainbow glitter and Sierra Gold yellow glitter.

Flies for the week have been sub-surface nymphs, black, dark olive and burgundy woolly buggers, VL special (red throated Matuka), grey hackle peacock, and Lew's TLS (Trumbull lake special).

Big Fish weighed in at the Lodge: Chad Anema of Artesia caught a 3lb Alpers on a fly, Jim Lang of Simi Valley caught a 3lb 12oz on power bait, Grant Nichols of Temecula caught a 3lb 11oz. Alpers on a Buoyant, William Schard of LA caught 3lb 5oz on orange power bait, Tim Hardy of Santa Barbara caught a 4lb Alpers on Rainbow power bait, Steve Roberts of Riverside took a 2lb 10oz on power bait in the snow, and Bruce Moore of San Diego caught a nice 2lb 6oz Alpers on Green Power Bait, and it's snowing as I write this.

The calendar says summer starts on the 21st of June, so I'm hoping this is the case. We really need the water, but it's getting monotonous and a little sunshine might be in order. The mosquitoes are still starving, so bring some bug juice. See you on the water, the witch of Virginia Lakes. Carolyn

Does anyone know when summer is supposed to arrive, it seems as though it has passed us up as we are still in the winter moder at the upper elevations (9000 feet plus). Afternoon thunderstorms have plagued the area for 11 straight days, and just when we thought it was clearing up, it hits again. Rain, snow, snow flurries, and cold temperatures, but it didn't stop a lot of anglers as our parking lot has been full most of the weekend. Anglers were......

Although the weather has been unsettled with thunderstorms, it hasn't stopped the anglers from enjoying the good weather inbetween. Berkeley would be proud, as their power bait, power worms, and power eggs have taken a lot of limits since the resort opened on the 21st. DFG stocked twice, Alpers once and the surprise visit from the Bridgeport Enhance program last Sunday. Not many of these little fatties have seen a stringer and continue to taunt the worms. The rain drenched the high elevations adding......
