http://www.hookslanding.netWe are heading back in a few hours early. First off happy birthday to captain Chris Volaski . What a trip on the New Hustler Sportfishing from hooks landing we got to one island around 11:30 and made squid for about 3 hours then as we stocked up the bait tank we headed to the other island were captain Chris had a hunch that some white sea bass were around. It was us and one other boat that was there as soon as grey light hit the bite was on. Boat limits of ghost from 10-34 pounds. There was even 4 yellowtail that showed up real quick. To 23 pounds also on squid. The average was 15 pounds or so on the wsb. Most effective was a lead head around 2 ounces and a live squid. With the current some anglers let it drift and got smacked. But this method took many tangles as well. I used a single dropper with a 4/0 owner ahi twist hook. With my 12 ounce sinker maybe 2 foot below my 1.5 foot loop. 30# top shot. On my Fishing Syndicate fsc 900h 30-60. One thing to remember "Follow your line to avoid tangles" and "dont set the hook, if your bit just start reeling"! I went 1 seabass for 3 that was 18.8 pounds on the scale so got my limit. Lost my first other two on bad tangles and someone setting the hook with braid . We actually left the seabass as they were biting since we got boat limits then headed to the rock fish grounds in 400 + feet. It was on fire again with boat limits of vermillions up to 8 pounds and rockfish. These reds were all huge!!! A couple ling cod showed with 2 barely legals and 1 that was 12 pounds. From there we left early and already almost to the harbor. So if your headed out for a chance at these ghost bring some squid jig set ups. 3/0-4/0 owner ahi twist hooks. 10-16 ounce sinkers. 30-40 pound test. Make sure to listen in next Saturday morning to Angler Chronicles radio show on am830. http://player.streamguys.com/klaa/sgplayer/player.php to hear about it and also ill be doing a write up for next weeks article at Western Outdoor News . Also next trip ill be chasing white sea bass on will be on the pacific islander 2 day trip. Limits also change to 3 a day after june 15th!! https://wonews.com/.../pacific-islander-2-days-june-30.../
