Another great week of breezy days, one day of wind, a full moon, and loads of bugs blowing into the water making it a virtual buffet for trout. Some high clouds moved through today and fishing was terrific, but catching slowed to a crawl unless you used your best method for inflated crawlers or pink power worms with a pinch of power bait on the eye of the hook.

The Hong group did well from a boat this afternoon and even caught a couple of the elusive browns that were stocked over a month ago. These browns are crafty little guys that seem to think they can hold out the summer, but the natural bait will get 'em every time.

Backcountry fishing has been fair to good on small dry flies and Mepp's, Panther Martin's and silver/red Super Dupers in Blue, Cooney and big Frog lakes.

Fly anglers did ok on streamers, and some even used a Grey Hackle Peacock sub-surface as an emerger. There was a terrific mayfly hatch early evening, along with the normal amount of mosquitoes taking over and small midges.

Talked to a few anglers that did well on salmon eggs, but the best was inflated crawlers and meal worms. Nothing of any size has surfaced since stocking both Big and Little Virginia with Alpers trout so if you are catching any at Big, please stop by the Lodge and give us a shout, as Tim would like to know how they are doing. There were over 15 tubers on Big V today and 37 cars, so there must be some attraction up there and hope it's the Alpers. Get a big one and bring it in for weight and get your name on our board.

DFG is still stocking weekly and we are grateful we have not been skipped with the current situation of the state budget shortfall. See you on the water....carolyn

Fishing arrived as did the normal summer weather we have expected in the Eastern Sierra with a huge explosion on the 4th. The fireworks were better than 2008, which was hard to believe, but I saw every 348 explosions plus the grand finale to beat all finales. The wind picked up over night dropping the temp, but it calmed down during the daylight and stayed breezy on and off. There is a fire in Yosemite putting a brown haze on the mountains and the air smells of heavy smoke.......

Hooray, summer arrived a bit late, but very welcome nevertheless. We had a week of strange weather when the sun finally hit the Sierra, and it came with a bang. The busiest weekend since we opened on the 21st of May, I could have sworn it was the 4th. Fishing has been excellent with Blake Rupert of Santa Ana pulling out a 4lb 1 oz Alpers on Power Bait, Jeff Paggi of Monrovia caught a nice 3lb 8 oz Alpers on a lure, and......
