The Little Truckee River currently has low water levels, but the water is clear. For best results, anglers should be fishing in the mornings with light tippets like a 5, 6, or 7x on a 12 foot leader. Current hatches on the Little Truckee River include pale morning duns, various midges, and a few small caddis. From around 11am to mid-afternoon, anglers should see a pale morning dun and a pink cahill hatch. Grasshopper activity has also been picking up, so be sure to try some hopper dropper combos. Some recommended flies to try are size 18 two-bit hooker, size 20 zebra midges, green net builder caddis, or any small dark dry fly. As always, please be mindful of the health of the fish and always check the water temperature where you are fishing during peak summer.
