East Lake fishing has been good. The water is cleared up and cooled down a bit. Let’s hope that this current heatwave doesn’t change that. It is still good practice to play fish fast and release them even faster. Surface action has been good in the mornings, evenings, and even on some afternoons. Calliaetis hatches are good and terrestrial action has been killer. Now that the water has cooled slightly, the fish will move into shallower areas to eat callibaetis and damsels. Nymph with chironomids, balanced leeches, and dark assassins in deep areas. Size 14 - 18 red and black chironomids have been fishing well. Shallow areas, around 5 - 10 feet deep, are perfect for callibaetis and damselfly nymphs, either under an indicator or on a retrieve. Browns will start searching for streamers soon, it can’t hurt to do a bit of stripping. This time of year the nights start to get longer and cooler. This, combined with cooler than average temperatures next week, will really help to cool down the waters of our lakes.
