Some large striped bass are being caught by Sacramento River anglers, noted Phil Peeples at the Tackle Box in Chico. "The stripers are still biting between Scotty's and Ord Bend", said Peeples. "Best time is late at night, from 9:00 PM and on. Some very large fish from 20 to 35 pounds are being caught on topwaters, and some smaller ones are hitting on cut baits. A good trick is fishing near where there are swallows burrowed into a steep bank or under a bridge. The stripers hang out there waiting for the young swallows to fall into the water. That's where you want to throw your topwater plug."

Lake Oroville water level dropping fast Not surprisingly, the rapidly dropping water levels are making things difficult for anglers on Lake Oroville, reported Fil Torres at Oroville Outdoors. "The falling water is a big deal, it's going down as much as two feet per day", observed Torres. "Start by fishing down at 30 feet, and keep going deeper until you find fish. Anglers on Lake Oroville need to go deep or head out at night, reported Don Reighley at Oroville Outdoors. "The water level is dropping almost two feet per day", observed Reighley. "Most of the bass are either suspended, or holding deep. The deep fish will still bite, but the suspended fish won't move in near the bank except at night. Best bet for bass that are mostly in the 12 to 15-inch slot is using a morning dawn-color dropshot bait......
