With The French Fire actively burning in the Isabella area, HWY 178 is closed for traffic at the Isabella Turnoff. The lake could be closed for fishing or may close any day do to the hazard posed from the fire. is holding at 10 percent capacity and the catfish bite has been excellent. Whiskerfish have been coming on Triple S dip Bait and cutbait near the dam. The Bass action is decent in the early morning and late afternoon with Whopper Ploppers, Texas Rigs, Spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. The Crappie bite picked up a bit and we had a few reports of slabs caught near the dam with minijigs or live minnows. The trout bite has slowed down and the Annual Kern Valley Chamber of Commerce Trout Derby is running through September 6, 2021.

Lake Success: Most bass anglers reported the morning and evening bites as the best bet
Buena Vista Lakes: Hot weather kept the bass deep in the tules last week
River Walk Lakes: The cooler weather over the last couple days has helped with the Bass bite
