The overall fishing from Cabo San Lucas has picked-up considerably
this week, following the full moon phase. High boat for the week was
the "Fish Cabo I", with Captain Christian Lopez, reporting in for a
single fishing day with 6 striper release, 2 dorado and 19 yellowfin
tuna. The "Gaviota IV", with Captain Octavio Castillo, reporting in
for 4 fishing days, reflected 6 dorado, 1 sailfish, 8 stripers
released and 22 yellowfin tuna. Overall combined fish counts for 32
days fished reflected 28 stripers, (25 released) 2 sailfish, (1
released) 2 wahoo, 125 dorado and 164 yellowfin tuna. While much of
the tuna were in the school fish ranges, 12-25 lbs., there were some
mixed, larger fish that weighed in near the 100 lb. mark.
Cabo Climate: Some partly cloudy days but with loots of sunshine,
too, and temps from 77 nights to 101 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Overall, excellent on bboth sides of the peninsula,
reflecting temps from 86-88 degrees from the Golden Gate Bank to Los
Frailes, with a pocket of 83 degree water hovering around the Jaime
Bank.
Best Fishing Area: The Pacific side with the Golden Gate best for
the striper action. Dorado, tuna, wahoo coming from the Jaime and
Golden Gate Banks.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait working well at the Golden Gate Bank on
feeders and slow trolled live baits for billfish and dorado, too.
Tuna doing well on cedar plugs and feathers with bigger fish taken on
the live bait.
