Anglers have found good fishing for rainbow trout. The fish are hitting PowerBait, spinners, and spoons. Unfortunately, with temperatures cooling down, crappie and bass fishing opportunities have tapered off for the year. The weekend weather forecast calls for clear skies and highs near 60 degrees.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife recently planted the reservoir with 500 pounds of rainbow trout. The fish are taking garlic or sparkle PowerBait, Roster Tails or night crawlers. Anglers are fishing from the dam and shorelines where there is the least amount of vegetation.
Anglers are reporting an increase in smallmouth bass activity throughout the Boulder Basin. Soft plastics on drop shots and shallow crankbaits are tempting fish just offshore. Stripers up to 2 pounds are taking anchovies in the early mornings along the shorelines of Hemenway and Government Wash. Boaters are having luck with shad swimbaits in open water.
Rainbow trout are chasing spinners at Willow Beach. The striper bite has slowed down, but some persistent anglers are having luck with jointed swimbaits overnight. On the lake, there have been reports of striper boils in the Cottonwood Basin. Kastmasters, swimbaits, and anchovies are producing fish. Black bass anglers are finding smallmouth in about 20 to 30 feet of water. A few anglers have caught catfish over five pounds while fishing in coves with frozen anchovies.
Striped bass in the 2- to 3-pound range are attacking anchovies throughout Casino Row and near Big Bend State Recreation Area. Rainbow trout anglers are having success with Panther Martins, Rooster Tails, and dark-colored marabou jigs. The black bass bite remains slow.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife recently planted rainbow trout in management area reservoirs. Water levels remain steady. Anglers are catching rainbow trout at Adams-McGill using spinners, spoons, and Woolly Buggers..
Bluegill and bass action has been slowing down early in the day but picking up in the afternoons. The final catfish plant of the season took place this week Floyd Lamb, Sunset, Lorenzi, and Veterans’ Memorial parks. Hafen Park in Mesquite also received a load of fish. Catfish have been biting on night crawlers and chicken livers at Sunset Lake.
