The fall Chinook run on the Nestucca is winding down

OR Department of Fish & Wildlife Staff

Report Date:

The wild coho fishery on the Nestucca and Little Nestucca Bay closed after Oct. 13. There is NO retention of wild coho (including jacks) in North coast bays or rivers for the remainder of 2021.

The fall Chinook run on the Nestucca is winding down, with the majority of fish already on the spawning grounds. There are still a few bright Chinook available in December, and at least one was hooked last week, but the numbers will be low this time of year.

It’s a bit early for winter steelhead on the Nestucca basin. All of our hatchery steelhead on the Nestucca are from wild broodstock, and as such this run doesn’t really get going strong until we are into December and is best January through March.
