The Fall River is snowy right now. Access is definitely tricky. The fish are in full winter mode. They are sitting deep and they’d rather not move to eat. They will move occasionally for a blue wing olive or a streamer. If the usual baetis nymphs and midges aren’t working under the surface, try something a little bit bigger. The fish may not be able to pass up a larger bug. Most importantly, don’t get caught up fishing for a single fish. Cover water to find fish that want to eat. In the winter, fly selection can be less important than looking for a fish that is actively feeding. We’ve got a break in the snow on the way but it’ll still be chilly out there. The fish may be a bit slow but this is the least crowded you’ll see the Fall River, winter fishing has its perks.
