The river is giving up some solid days of fishing. The water is a little lower and clearer overall, fish will be sitting in the deeper holes, and with colder water, will be a little more difficult to entice with your fly. But, there are still fish in the system and that's what counts with steelheading. The National Forest closure below Pigeon Point, is set to expire on February 1st. Golden Stones are a solid choice of fly right now. Keep your eyes peeled for any hatches, yes they can happen this time of year, and change up accordingly. Psycho Princes, Pheasant Tails and all of the Euronymph jobbers are working too. Some people are picking fish up on egg patterns. We have some stellar weather forecst over the next week and a half, but remember to check the forecast and keep some chains in your vehicle when you head out. Early Summer Run Steelhead on the Trinity River will take swung flies readily. Spey rods are becoming an increasingly popular method to swing flies.
