The numbers of fish the hatchery is reporting over the last five weeks has been steady and good! Fish can be found throughout the system from Lewiston to Pigeon Point. And the good news is the river below Pigeon Point will be legally accessible again beginning next Tuesday. Golden Stones are a solid choice of fly right now. Keep your eyes peeled for any hatches, yes they can happen this time of year, and change up accordingly. Psycho Princes, Pheasant Tails and all of the Euronymph jobbers are working too. The weather looks great over the next week and the larger fish are here. Some smaller fish full of steely fury are around too, so make sure your drag is not set too tight or you will be donating flies to the steelhead fishing gods. Steelhead Fishing Can be Frustrating
These anadromous rainbow trout are known as the 'Fish of a Thousand Casts.' For good reason! The learning curve can be quite steep learning when and where to go, and what type of water to target. Early Summer Run Steelhead on the Trinity River will take swung flies readily. Spey rods are becoming an increasingly popular method to swing flies. The Fly Shop's Signature Spey Rods are an economical way to get into a great Spey rig. Add a Ross Cimmaron II Fly Reel and a Scandi shooting head, a leader, tippet and fly and you'll be in business.
