Fishing conditions are low and clear. The first hatchery spring chinook have been caught on the Rogue River. Also, boat and bank anglers still have a shot at landing a steelhead. Folks in boats looking to be a bit more mobile for steelhead may want to try bobber doggingside drifting and fly fishing techniques as they have also been productive in these water conditions. When fly fishing, as steelhead push down river post spawn, they become more aggressive to eating the fly. Anglers are finding them holding on the inside of seams and deeper riffles under an indicator or using a dry dropper rig with stonefly, egg or leach imitations.
Anglers can only retain 1 wild steelhead a day and it must be 24 inches or larger. Wild Chinook must be released until June 1.
