A Positive Step in the MLPA Process
This past week, the San Diego City Council was to review a proposal by the San Diego Baykeepers to have them support their proposal to close as many area to fishing as possible, especially all of La Jolla. In their request, they made several inaccurate statements, one being that 70% of the kelp forests in San Diego County are gone. Anyone that spend time on the water knows how ridiculous this is. The good news is the City Council scolded the Baykeepers for wasting their time on such a ridiculous request, and complemented all the fishermen that attend the meeting supporting their cause. Chalk one up for the good guys! The big meeting comes in Long Beach October 21 at 1:30pm at the Hilton Long Beach. The Blue Ribbon Task Force will meet to hear public comment on the three proposed closure maps. Anglers are encouraged to give their comments and support Option 2. We wil l see you there!
Still some good fishing, and much better weather to go with it. In fact, much of the week saw flat calm conditions. Always check you own weather reports before you go.We have several great links on our links page

for weather sites. Offshore, private boats have been scratching out a few tuna, yellowtail and dorado on the local banks. The best local fishing has been on the 1- 1/2 day trips, with limit style fishing for most. Bonito fishing has been outstanding at the Coronado Islands, La Jolla and Catalina Island. Four to 8 pound bonito have been entertaining anglers with a few bruiser yellowtail in the mix. Rick caught and released another marlin Wednesday near the 209 bank, so they are are still around.
Long range boats have had an interesting week. Reports of wide open 25-35 pound yellowtail at Cedros Island, and good yellowfin tuna fishing on the banks below. Guadalupe Island unfortunately has been closed by the Mexican Navy due to some confusing issues, but Ken Franke, President of SAC is working hard to resolve these issues and expects to have our permits back any day.
