The Fall River has not been stocked in a while and this means the fish are spread out all the way from the headwaters to the confluence with the Deschutes. Nymphing continues to be the most effective technique on the Fall and indicator and euro tactics are both producing fish.  ODFW is set to stock the river again sometime between April 11 and the 15th which will ensure good fishing opportunities through spring and heading into summer. For nymphing, using a heavier tungsten fly with 12-18” of tippet and a small fly like a Zebra midge is a good method. We will be seeing more dry fly activity as spring moves along and on any given day in the upcoming weeks you may see an array of caddis (yellow,tan,gray,green) and possibly some mayflies and small stones. If you see fish rising, but can’t pinpoint what they're hitting, it's likely small midges. With the crystal clear water on the Fall the fish can sometimes get finicky so covering water and exploring spots you haven’t before is beneficial.
