Finally, the Little Truckee has seen a bump in flows after many months of low water! As of today, the Little Truckee is at just under 100 CFS and we should see the fishing improve here in the coming weeks as long as the flows remain stable. This has also come during the height of the annual rainbow trout spawn, and if you are fishing out here, we encourage you to familiarize yourselves with what to watch for - and to avoid targeting these fish (avoid spawning redds!). If you have any questions in this regard, please don’t hesitate to call, or stop into the shop and we will happily explain. One great way to avoid actively spawning fish would be to stick with dry flies as spawning fish are less likely to take them, but even this is not a guarantee. The bugs out here will be BWO’s, midges and the occasional Skwala, and 6x tippet is recommended for these picky fish.
If you would like to go fishing with us please check out our website Trout Creek Outfitters.com or call (530) 563-5119.
