From the mouth upstream to Fishers Ferry boat ramp, wild Chinook are legal for retention after June 1. Anglers are reminded that fishing is closed from Rainie Falls to 400 feet below the falls, as well as the Gold Hill Boat ramp, upstream to the Gold Hill municipal water intake structure located above Ti’lomikh Falls. There are a few holes in the Gold Hill vicinity anglers target Chinook, but these don’t really get going until July. Most middle Rogue Anglers are targeting Chinook in the Galice Area if they don’t want to drive up to Shady Cove.
Trout fishing is again open. There is a 5 fish daily bag limit for adipose fin-clipped trout. Non-adipose fin-clipped trout must all be immediately released unharmed. All Rogue tributaries are closed unless noted in the exceptions.
Wild steelhead retention is now closed. Hatchery steelhead retention remains open. The winter run is over but anglers are starting to pick up early summer steelhead. Plugs or side drifting would be the best method for these, but they are still pretty sparce in the middle Rogue.
The Grants Pass stream gauge is 4,060 cfs, 56 degrees and turbidity at 3 NTU. Current flow, temp and turbidity conditions for the Rogue can be found at the USGS stream gauges here, or checking the City of Grants Pass water page’s river data here.
