The Coquille Basin steelhead rivers continue to run fairly low and clear

The Coquille Basin steelhead rivers continue to run fairly low and clear.  Most steelhead are holding in deeper pools but are slowly still moving upriver.

Steelhead anglers have been catching a few hatchery winter steelhead in the Coquille Basin steelhead rivers but overall fishing has been slow. This year’s steelhead run does not appear to be a big run of fish so anglers will have to work a little harder to catch a fish to take home.

Drift boat anglers reported a tree down across the river on the South Fork Coquille River between the Myrtle Groove driftboat launch and the 7 Mile marker driftboat launch. Drift boats can make it around this tree at higher flows but it may become a problem as the river levels continue to drop.

Trout fishing in streams and rivers will reopen May 22.
