The Lower Deschutes opens in its entirety in 8 days. This is very exciting and we can’t wait to get on the river. Until then, you can still fish down river from Maupin or upriver to the locked gate. Stonefly nymphs should be top of your list right now as these will end up in the drift more and more as we approach the hatch next month. Running a double nymph rig with a meaty stonefly in black or brown and a little pheasant tail, two-bit, nitro caddis, or jigged leech is an excellent way to approach the river this time of year. Swinging sculpin, crayfish and leech streamers is also a fun way to get some eats.
