Steelhead fishing continues to decline. There are still a few steelhead crossing Winchester Dam, but most appear darker and close to spawning.
As soon as the water starts to warm up, we may see Chinook moving up the North Umpqua. However, the water is still fairly cold. We have had confirmed reports of a few Chinook being caught in the North Umpqua, but no reports of them crossing Winchester dam yet.
Anglers who catch a hatchery winter steelhead are encouraged to turn in the snouts at one of the collection barrels found at many boat ramps throughout the Umpqua watershed or the ODFW office.
