Fish on the Little Truckee have wised up quickly and they are back to their normal selves. These fish are notoriously selective in terms of fly selection and presentation. Given the lack of pressure they saw this winter, it’s remarkable to see how quickly they have adjusted to the presence of fishermen. Fishing the little Truckee will require an accurate fly selection. Try midge pupa, BWO nymphs, worms, and egg patterns. For nymphing, use light tippet and small stealthy strike indicators such as a clear or white bobber. You can also try a dry dropper set up. No matter what your selection, you will have to pair your fly with a good drift to put fish in the net. Although we have seen more fish rising this week, the dry fly bite has yet to really kick into gear. This week of warm weather may start to bring out more hatches that have been delayed due to the long winter we have had this year
