The Lower Deschutes has been fishing well despite the flows being all over the place. Salmonflies and golden stones are all over the bushes around Maupin and more and more bugs are showing up daily further up river. With the hot weather forecasted next week it should be on for the big bugs. The higher flows will have fish in close to the banks waiting for salmonflies to fall from the grass and branches. Higher up river towards the day stretch utilizing a dry-dropper setup with a jimmy legs under a large salmonfly dry will help find fish who are still feeding on the stones underwater. As always swinging around a sculpin, crayfish or leech is a fun way to target fish down there in higher flows.
