EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is now running at about 1260 cfs and is very off color. We’ve talked to quite a few anglers who went down there to take a look at the high flow but opted out of fishing. It will likely be several weeks or more before the flows come down to more fishable levels, when they do we’ll be sure to let you know.

SCEIRINE RANCH

It sounds like they’ve opened up the highway on the Nevada side now but of course we haven’t had any reports from the ranch so far. As with the California side we’ll let you know as soon as we know anything.

HUNEWILL POND

The pond fished very well the last couple days with good reports from all of the anglers who fished it. It sounds like fishing nymphs under an indicator and slow stripping leech patterns were the best techniques. Copper Johns, zebra midges, soft hackles, Mayor’s mini leeches and small buggers all did well. Give us a call if you want to book some time out there.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

Bridgeport is still kicking out some fish, mainly from the shore down near the dam. Bait fishing with power bait, mice tails, pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers has been the best way to catch them lately. The lake is still very off color due to all the run-off coming into it from Swauger, Robinson, Buckeye and the Upper East Walker. The lake level is raising 8 to 12 inches per day right now and we hear they will likely be able to start putting their docks back in the marina in a few days. At some point the run-off will level out and start to come down, at that time the water should clear up and the boat fishing should bet much better.

KIRMAN LAKE

We didn’t get any reports from Kirman this week, if we hear anything we’ll pass it on as soon as we can.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins are still fishing very well with lots of smaller fish being caught daily as well as some larger rainbows and a few browns in the 3 to 6 pound range. Lots of baits and lures are working including Hook Up Baits, Sierra Slammers, Kastmasters, Thomas Bouyants, Rapalas, power bait, mice tails, inflated crawlers and pinched crawlers. Both shore and boat anglers are enjoying good success, as well as float tubers and kayakers.

WEST WALKER RIVER

We haven’t heard any rumblings about the West lately, the water is very high and off color so it will likely be difficult to fish for a while. We’ll let you know when the conditions improve.

VIRGINIA LAKES

The Virginia Lakes Road has not been cleared of snow yet, it may be a while before the road is cleared and you can get up there, again, we’ll let you know when it is accessible. We heard a couple days ago that the plows were only a little over 2 miles up the road so far, tough going up there with 20+ feet of snow in some places and lots of ice as well.

If you would like to receive this report via email, drop me a line at reidfly63@yahoo.com and I'll get you on the list!

RANDOM INFORMATION: CA Highway 182 and NV 338 are all open and it sounds like they’re not actually going to have to close Highway 395 up near Topaz to get the repairs done up there, we’ve heard they will probably have one lane traffic during the repairs.

The Virginia Lakes road is still closed, probably for a while longer. We haven’t heard much from the Buckeye Road but a while ago we had heard it was very mucky and rutted and several vehicles had been getting stuck on the steeper parts. The Green Creek Road is blocked with snow drifts and flood waters a few miles off of Highway 395 as is the Summers Meadow section. The Bodie Road is still closed. Lots of adventurers are getting stuck while travelling back country roads, there’s lots of flooding from the snow melt, lots of muddy sections and washouts, if you’re cruising around on the dirt roads in the area be careful.

The Bridgeport Gun Club is having their annual Gun Rights Dinner on June 3, the Mono County Museum here in Bridgeport will re-open for the season on May 24 and the Bridgeport Motorcycle Jamboree is getting a fresh start on June 9, 10 and 11 this year!
