The Trask has the North Coast’s largest release of hatchery spring Chinook (not counting the Columbia) and those fish should start returning this month and on through June. It can be tough fishing, but catching a chrome bright springer on a spring day is an experience worth the effort and nothing beats spring Chinook on the grill.
Fishing has picked up this week with fish being caught daily. The river below the hatchery always has the highest numbers of fish but there are some being caught upriver as well. There are no hatchery summer steelhead releases on the Trask, but we do see the occasional stray.
Trout season re-opened May 22 and there are cutthroat trout throughout the Trask basin.
