Best bets for weekend fishing

  • It’s Free Fishing Weekend June 3-4! Fish, crab and clam for free—no licenses, combined angling tags or endorsements required. 
  • ODFW and partners will host a number of free fishing events around the state. See a list of events
  • Dozens of waterbodies throughout the state are being stocked with rainbow trout-Memorial Day and Free Fishing Weekend are heaviest trout stocking times of the year. Find a location near you.
  • Many rivers, creeks and streams on the north and south coasts re-opened to trout fishing on May 22. Anglers will find resident cutthroat trout throughout many of these rivers. Find 7 tips for catching coastal cutthroat.
  • Anglers will also find good Chinook fishing in the lower Columbia tributaries, Nestucca Basin, Tillamook Bay, and the Rogue, Umpqua and Umatilla rivers.
  • Bass and other warmwater fishing is heating up thanks to recent warm temperatures.

Leave young wildlife in the wild

“Saving” young wildlife can do more harm than good. So, when you find a fledgling bird on the ground or a deer fawn or elk calf hidden away in grass, leave it alone. Young animals are rarely orphaned, and Mom’s probably nearby. Just give them some room. Learn more.
