Truckee River
Water Conditions
On the Truckee River, we are now seeing summer flows throughout the system. The trout are currently looking for more oxygenated water and the faster slots and riffles are now holding the best concentration of trout. Anglers should fish behind rocks in the heads of the pools, or any fast water structures you can find. Flows are 150 CFS in the town of Truckee, 245 CFS in Glenshire and 707 CFS at the stateline.
Tips for the Week
With the current water conditions, tightline or euro nymphing is the most productive technique right now on the Truckee River. The tighline rig will get the flies down faster into the strike zone. Perdigons, caddis pupa, pats rubber legs and small mayfly imitations are all effective for anglers right now.
Suggested Flies or Lures
Dry flies to try for the week are E/C caddis, Elk Hair Caddis, Parachute Adam’s, Little Yellow Sallies or Yellow Stimulator's. Some nymphs to try for the week are juju baetis, pats rubber legs, flash back pheasant tails size 16 and hares ears size 14’s.
