The Little Truckee continues to fish well this week. The flows remain over 100, which is not the norm for fall. While the dry fly bite hasn’t been lights out, it has still been consistent enough to keep the dry rod rigged and ready to go when an emergence happens. The bugs of fall are the most active at this point, and anglers should have a good assortment of BWO’s and midges in all life stages to be able to dupe these trout. Nymphs, emergers, and dries are all equally important here, and these fish are not only incredibly keyed into these life stages, but also the size shape and color of the fly.
For your best odds out here, you want to match all of these factors coupled with light tippet and a good presentation. There are a lot of pieces to this puzzle, and once you connect all of these dots the fishing out here can be epic, but these fish don’t make it easy.
