The Lower Deschutes is fishing well. The cooler weather seems to have slightly slowed the bite down, but fishing remains good. Nymphing has accounted for the majority of catches but fish have been coming on caddis in some of the back eddies as well. October caddis, 14-16 tan caddis, and 16-18 black are all good choices. As far as nymphing goes a tandem fly rig with a larger fly like an october caddis or stonefly and small fly like a perdigon or egg is a good way to go. Tungsten flies will ensure you’re getting down to an appropriate depth quickly. Steelhead are throughout the system and have been caught nymphing and swinging flies.
