Recent ice checks revealed ice conditions are still widely variable around Comins Lake. The majority of the north lake has 5.5 inches of ice on it.  The middle of the lake has 10 to 11 inches of ice, while the south end has 7 inches of ice in areas sampled.  With the warmer temps, the ice along the perimeter of the lake has become soft. Anglers will want to be careful accessing the lake.  Ice fishing has been slow so far this winter with rainbow trout being the most common catch.  Anglers have been catching rainbows from 15 to 18 inches averaging two pounds.  Nightcrawlers, spoons, and jigs are working well.

Anglers pursuing northern pike will do well on hard and soft plastic baits, as well as flashy spoons and jigs.  Fall stocking was completed with 8,246 Rainbow Trout averaging 8.2 inches. Anglers are catching Northern Pike ranging from 18 inches to 30+ inches. Please note that NDOW has placed radio tags in several northern pike.  These pike will have an orange floy tag near their dorsal fin and a small antenna (~ 7 inches long) coming from their stomach.  Please return these fish to the water for research purposes.
