Fish reports are definitely accurate at one thing, and that’s telling how it was at the lake, not necessarily how it going to be. What we are trying to say is that everyday is different at Pyramid, and patterns rarely repeat themselves in any given frequency. When you get down to it, put in the time and you will reap the reward of getting something in your net.
With the cooler water temps we haven’t had a voracious bite, meaning the trout have a slower metabolism, aren’t chowing super hard, and are conserving energy. What does this mean? Patience while soaking a midge. Midges have consistently produced the most results throughout the month of March and start of April. Not so much on the strip bite though. Not that this method doesn’t produce results, but you must remember that these trout aren’t in a voracious mood, so they rather pick off the easy stuff.
Here is the thing though, despite overall catch numbers not going through the roof we have seen the quality of catches increase. Now that is worth your time if you ask me! Areas to focus on would be around the mid section of the lake this time of year, and fish are running reasonably shallow. You may find success anywhere from 4ft deep to 9ft deep, just depends on where you are throwing a line at. Pay attention to wind and current direction that will drive the fish into shore, that will make a huge difference in your success right no matter where you set up shop. Good luck and hope that you can join us soon out at the lake!
