Beautiful day for a little boat ride! Lol covered 26 miles of water today just messing around. We have quite a bit of color to the water & that doesn't change from point A,B or C. I started out by 7:30am with pretty solid mid 62F's surface temps across & up the south basin until I was above slough point. Surface temps kept creeping up. About a mile north of the Youth Camp it was already pushing 66F & was barely 8am. By 9am off shrimp island I had temps in the 63's. Wildcat to Christie was cooler (pretty normal) at 61-62 as the middle of the basin was shooting upwards of 65F. So we are warm but not too warm yet. I saw fish pretty much everywhere when the hatch was busting & those I scoped drifting later in the morning were mostly 8-12ft deep...I didn't see a lot out on these out in the middle depths but the ledges and structures appeared to be holding fish. I didn't see a lot of activity north of Pelican Pt... if water temps are reaching 68-70 durning the afternoon (not uncommon in the shallows to raise 6-8F from AM to PM) ...most trout are on their way to the Youth Camp & slightly cooler water. Visibility wasn't good enough to look for fish swimming away from the boat. So trollers gear up for showing up in the water. Ramp was fine, dock looks good, lake shore is green! Mosquito's are the size of small birds and plentiful so bring bug repellent. As a recent test in the yard...deet wins hands down over non deet. 12 days to go. Hoping the water temps stay where they are & don't spike. We often find trout near the surface early in the season. It's common for them to also drop down 21-24ft as they've gone most of the winter without a lot of boats running .... the pressure can push the fish around a bit for a couple weeks before they settle in to the noise. We're looking forward to a great fishing season beginning Saturday May 25th! Get ready for big fish and great fun!!
