The Little Truckee remains at +/- 550 CFS this week and the fishing out here will be tough, but not impossible. At these flows, we recommend being selective on where you fish, looking for any breaks in the current, seams where fast and slow water meet or the few pools still around. Euro nymphing will be your best bet for success out here, and even when the flows are high, you will still need to present a smaller nymph, not necessarily a size 20, but an 18 wouldn’t be out of the question. PMD’s, caddis, midges, BWO’s, worms and eggs are all great selections this week. 4x-5x tippet will be ideal at these flows and the typical 6x-7x tippet will surely set you up for heartbreak if you hook a good fish. Streamer fishing is an option out here right now as well and provides a unique opportunity that this tailwater doesn’t often see. We recommend using smaller, more natural streamers if you do take this approach here, and the same as the Truckee, cover water, fish them quickly, your first cast will be your best cast.
