https://troutcreekoutfitters.com/The Truckee has been fishing well despite the warm water. While the Glenshire area is only fishing well in the mornings, if you get out bright and early you will have a few hours of great fishing before noon. The hopper bite up here has been good to the point where we often aren’t even putting a dropper below it. If fishing down below Boca, expect good fishing a bit later in the day, slowing down more towards the early afternoon. Nymphing remains more consistent down here as the flows are greater, but the possibility of a fish taking a hopper certainly remains. The main bugs for subsurface fishing will be stoneflies and crawdads, paired with a PMD or caddis. August is considered by many to be the single best month for throwing crawdads, and the first few days of the month have started out strong. Dead drifting them under an indicator or using a jigged craw while euro nymphing will consistently outperform swinging them, and if you’re looking to chuck a streamer, we recommend using an olive sculpin limitation instead. As water temps remain warm expect to find the majority of your fish holding in fast water like riffles, pocket water or the tops of buckets. Anywhere there is whitewater, bubbles or a seam is where most fish are holding right now.
