The Truckee continues to fish well this week!

The Truckee continues to fish well this week, in particular below the Boca confluence where flows are at their best and the water temps most consistent. We are catching fish on both larger flies such as craws and stones, and smaller patterns imitating BWO’s and midges. The fish continue to hold in riffles and pocket water for now, but with the cooler days ahead we recommend that you start to probe some of the slower runs as well. Tail-outs and deeper troughs towards the back of the run can be a great place to find some of the largest fish in the river, especially as temps continue to drop. The fish will likely start to spread out in the weeks to come, so be ready to cover water with a greater variety of techniques as we head into fall. Streamers, indicator nymphing, euro-nymphing and even the occasional opportunity to throw a dry fly are techniques that will all be in play in the months ahead. Expect excellent fishing opportunities to last through at least mid-November when we start to see water temperatures start to dip consistently below 40 degrees.
