At 60 CFS for over a month now, the Little Truckee has seen some difficult fishing this week. The low flows, algae covered bottom and sporadic hatches as of late has made both dry fly and nymph fishing a bit spotty. When the flows remain as low as they have over the last month, some of the fish in this river will push back downstream where they can live more comfortably in the lake. The residents that remain here 12 months are often heavily pressured and become very tough to catch when the hatches drop in size and the water is low. We are hopeful that these flows will not last much longer as Stampede still sits about as full as we have ever seen for the month of September. The current hatch of significance is BWO’s in sizes 18-20 and with the cooler days expected this week, we could very well see these bugs really switch on in the immediate future, improving dry fly fishing.
