Terrestrials like hoppers and beetles are also worth trying, especially in a dry-dropper setup with a foam fly on top and a nymph or two below. On the dry fly front, top choices include black ants, Griffith’s gnats, BWO, PMD and tan CDC caddis. Stripping streamers around downed timber can be particularly effective too—patterns like Soccer Moms and micro tungsten leeches are ideal for this.
