The Metolius River continues to be one of the most dynamic fishing spots in Oregon right now. The Green Drake hatch is still out but don’t expect it to last much longer. You can still find some activity, especially during the later hours. Be sure to pack both #10 and #14 patterns to match the sizes available in the river. Hatch-wise, PMDs and Mahogany Duns and BWOs are all out on The Met. For those who like to target nymphs, caddis pupa, Perdigons, and Egan’s Frenchies have been performing well, along with golden stones. As autumn progresses, the river is seeing increased activity from the kokanee salmon, and the rainbow trout are feeding heavily on orange eggs drifting down. If you’re targeting Bull Trout, keep your larger, articulated streamers like Dolly Llamas ready for the early morning.
