Pyramid Lake has been dealing with a significant algae bloom over the last week or so, which has particularly effected the north end of the lake. This is a bit strange for this time of year, as this is usually a problem seen in lakes during the summer months, but given how warm this October has been, it makes sense. We hope with the colder weather in the forecast this will be short lived. There is still some fishing to be had, and if you are heading out here we would encourage you to focus on the southern beaches where the bloom is less apparent. While we know that most of you aren’t out there to keep fish, we feel it’s important to note not to harvest any fish at this time. The best bet for fishing out here will be to get on a boat or float tube and fish deep using jigging techniques or back kicking streamers on a fast sinking line. While there have been a few reports of fish being caught off shore by fly anglers, this will be only during the early morning hours and remains very inconsistent as of now. Finger crossed, if the weather continues to remain cold we should be just a few short weeks away from getting out here with our switch rods and chucking bobbers from the shoreline.
