The algae bloom last week has mostly broken up, and as this storm moves in and we pass the last full moon, we hope to see the shore fishing continue to improve. We have heard rumors that the fish are starting to transition into shallower water with some regularity. After this next storm passes, we may begin to see a consistent shore bite. Until then, the use of watercrafts and heavy jigs on a braided line is what most fly anglers are using to find fish. If you want to keep it a bit more traditional, try using a fast-sinking line (Type 5-7) and some olive over white streamers and strip off of a boat or back kick on a float tube. If looking to get an early start on the shore fishing game, look for beaches with good drop offs, set that depth at 12+ feet and try using 2 leeches in varying colors to tempt the handful of fish cruising the shelves. This will likely be best first thing in the morning and die off later in the day, so it could be a good option for someone looking to spend a quick morning out here.
